The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman | Book Review

I absolutely adored this dark, yet emotional fairytale. This novel follows a man who returns to his hometown and meets up with an old acquaintance. When he meets up with her, though, he remembers his childhood, an incredible girl, and the magical events that happened during that period of time.

The writing is fluid and lyrical, and Gaiman knows how to pull the reader into his incredible worlds. I kept flipping the pages to find out what would happen next, and his descriptions are vivid. I was surprised by how much this short little novel emotionally impacted me, and how Gaiman packed so many delicious scenes in so few pages. I would have loved for this book to have been a little longer, to flesh out the backstory of the main character a little more, but otherwise I recommend this to anyone looking for a quick, fun treat of a fairytale. It left me pondering what had just occurred and continues to linger in my mind.

VERDICT: 4.5/5
