Patema Inverted (2013) Film Review | 365 Day Film Challenge – Day 69

What a gorgeous, unique film. Patema Inverted is the story of a girl named Patema (Cassandra Lee), who lives in a village made up of underground tunnels. She frequently explores the tunnels, and one day during her expedition, she accidentally finds herself falling through gravity to a different world. In this new world, she is upside down, and needs assistance from a boy named Age (Michael Sinterniklaas), who is right-side up. In this new world, people who have fallen through gravity are seen as dangerous and Patema is in their crosshairs.

The English dub is fantastic, and I loved the story. The visuals are beautiful, and the relationship between Patema and Age is touching. I do feel like this is a film that warrants multiple viewings to fully appreciate the intricate plot, which will turn off some viewers, but I look forward to watching Patema Inverted again.

Verdict: 4/5
