Sunshine (2007) Film Review | 365 Day Film Challenge – Day 38

Sunshine is a well-paced, fascinating, and extremely underrated sci-fi gem. Directed by Danny Boyle and starring Chris Evans, Cillian Murphy, and Rose Byrne, Sunshine follows the lives of a group of astronauts as they’re sent to reignite the dying sun. Along the way, they receive distress calls from the ship sent to do this mission before them… and this shuttle was supposed to have been burned to a crisp.

The acting is great, in particular Chris Evans and Cillian Murphy. Each actor brings a unique personality to their character, and you care about each of these characters as individuals. As the film goes along, your anxiety increases with the crew’s as shit goes down.

This is also a beautifully shot film, with gorgeous cinematography. The story is well-paced, and sinks its hooks into you. Is Sunshine entirely original? No, there are other films with similar plots and events, but it sure is one fun ride anyway.

I already want to re-watch this movie to pick up on details I may have missed on my first viewing. A must-watch for science fiction fans.

Verdict: 4/5
