Buried (2010) Film Review | 365 Day Film Challenge – Day 25

Let’s just get this out of the way: if you’re looking for an action-packed film that’s chock full of exciting moments, you’ll hate Buried. If you like films that center on one character and his plight for survival, though, I highly recommend you check this movie out.

Starring Ryan Reynolds, Buried is about a truck driver named Paul Conroy, who awakens to find himself trapped in a wooden coffin. The only items he has at his disposal are a lighter, a flashlight, and a mysterious cell phone. This is one of Ryan Reynolds’ best performances, and I was on the edge of my seat the entire film, wondering if his character would find his way out of the hellish predicament he was in.

Buried is beautifully shot, making you feel like you’re trapped in the coffin with Paul. I felt claustrophobic while watching, and you can almost feel the oxygen thinning out and the sweat bead on your skin. This is a grimy, dark film, and I absolutely loved the aesthetic.

If you’re into films that focus on a single character/location and are focused on the moment-to-moment actions to survive, then you must watch Buried. Ryan Reynolds is brilliant, and the film feels claustrophobic, in the best way possible.

Verdict: 4/5
