Anthropoid (2016) Film Review | 365 Day Film Challenge – Day 23

I wanted to like Anthropoid more than I ultimately did. Based on the true story of Operation Anthropoid, which was a WWII mission to assassinate Reinhard Heydrich, and starring Jamie Dornan and Cillian  Murphy, this movie had huge potential. It just kind of fizzled for me, though.

The story is an incredible part of history, but the film’s pacing and execution left me wanting more. My attention often wandered and even though there were several standout moments, I was let down. The acting is great, and Jamie Dornan and Cillian Murphy are electric on screen. I just wish that their characters had been more fully fleshed out.

Anthropoid is beautifully shot, with a sepia-tinged color scheme. I adored the cinematography, and each scene was outstandingly presented.

Overall, I was left wanting more. I wanted to learn more about the characters and wished things had been more fleshed out. The performances were fantastic, though, and the cinematography is beautiful.

Verdict: 3/5
