Sweet Home (2015) Film Review | 100 Day Film Challenge – Day 58

Oh boy. I was hoping for a fun home-invasion thriller with a few scares. I didn’t get that at all.

The film centers on a couple who decide to have a romantic rendezvous in a decrepit building (always a smart idea). The downside? A group of killers have been sent to murder the last tenant of the complex and they’re conveniently in the way.

Sweet Home utilizes traditional horror tropes for the first hour of the film. It’s not scary, and is extremely predictable. The last twenty minutes kick into gear, but by that point I was totally out of the film.

The acting isn’t very good. Most of the performances feel phoned in and unnatural.

One positive is the cinematography. It’s gorgeous. The film is full of stunning shots, amazing lighting, and unique camera angles.

I can’t recommend Sweet Home. It’s a typical home-invasion thriller but doesn’t deliver scares or believable performances. It’s a beautiful film to look at, but I would suggest skipping it.

Verdict: 2.5/5
