Willem Dafoe Cast As Ryuk In Death Note!

Death Note is one of my personal favorite anime OF ALL TIME, so I’m both eagerly anticipating/fearing the live action adap. Having Adam Wingard as the director is a major plus, but what really made my heart skip a beat was the news that Willem Dafoe was cast as the voice of Ryuk! (Anyone else ever noticed that Willem is always cast as a villainous character? Because he’s DA FOE!! I’ll be here all week.)

LOOK AT THIS HANDSOME FELLA!

If you haven’t watched Death Note or read the manga (WHICH YOU SHOULD), the story revolves around Light Yagami (to be played by Nat Wolff), a high school boy who gets his hands on a notebook that has horrific power. If you write down the name of a person and cause of death, that person will die within 24 hours. The notebook formerly belonged to the Shinigami named Ryuk, who aids Light in his reign of terror.

I’m cautiously optimistic about this adaptation, and can’t wait to hear more updates and details. Death Note will arrive exclusively on Netflix sometime in 2017.

  1. Fu-wha- WHY DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS?? This is a legit Death Note adaptation, that’s… well I don’t really know how to react. Uh, anyway, Dafoe always gets my approval, and the guy who portrayed Snoop in Straight Outta Compton is playing L, that’s awesome. Ain’t nothing but a L thang!
